Hopkins High Res PhotoAs a community health researcher, administrator, and avid fitness professional Dr. Jammie Hopkins is committed to operating at the intersections of policy, research, and practice to promote healthy lifestyles and eliminate health disparities among vulnerable populations. Jammie earned a BS in Exercise Science from University of California, Davis, a MS in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton, and a Doctor of Public Health degree (DrPH) from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. He completed a Health Policy Leadership postdoctoral fellowship at Morehouse School of Medicine, where he currently serves as Project Director for the NIH-funded Transdisclipinary Collaborative Center for Health Disparities Research. He also holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Community Health and Preventive Medicine.

Dr. Hopkins professional interests center on the dissemination and implementation of “healthy by default” physical activity, healthy eating, and other lifestyle behavioral strategies where people live, work, play, learn, and worship. He is particularly interested in the training and strategic engagement of peer wellness “ambassadors;” and improving clinical, organizational, and community linkages to physical activity and healthy eating assets. He is also a personal fitness trainer, trained in exercise physiology, certified as an Emotional Competence Coach (Equilibrium Dynamics, Inc.), and is founder of WORK IT OUT Wellness, an independent wellness consulting business based in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Hopkins currently serves on advisory boards for Impulse Group Atlanta and the Yancey/Edgley Fellowship for Health Promotion and Physical Fitness.
