Kofi Kondwani, Ph.D


Dr Kofi KondwaniKofi A. Kondwani, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Community Health and Preventive Medicine,  National Center for Primary Care, Morehouse School of Medicine. Dr. Kondwani received his Ph.D. in psychophysiology from Maharishi International University in Fairfield, Iowa.  Dr. Kondwani has served as the Transcendental Meditation (TM) treatment provider in five randomized clinical control trials supported by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.  These research projects have investigated the physiological, psychological, and behavioral effects of meditation on stress, behavior, hypertension and cardiovascular disease primarily in African American populations.

For more than thirty years, Dr. Kondwani has taught Consciously Resting Meditation techniques in academic research settings and as a preventive or treatment strategy in hospitals, health clinics, public and private schools, businesses and prisons.   His research includes the effect of meditation on stress, elevated blood pressure, Metabolic Syndrome and left ventricular mass in hypertensive African American populations.
